President

The president’s office assists in fostering the collective ministry and mission of the Seventh-day Adventist church in the Southern Union Conference. Membership growth, evangelism, church planting, tithe and funding the mission, literature evangelism, K-16 Adventist Education, health-care ministry, global mission; all these and more are supported and reported to the constituency by the president.
Through his membership on numerous boards and committees in the North American Division and the General Conference, the president interfaces with institutions such as Southern Adventist University, Florida Hospital College of Health Sciences, Adventist Health System, Oakwood University, and Loma Linda University, as well as other mission outreach entities of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Current Mission Priorities
Adventist EDGE
While Church membership has grown, K-12 enrollment in Seventh-day Adventist schools has declined. The goal of Adventist EDGE is to increase K-12 enrollment by 30% by 2010. Adventist EDGE is redesigning education in the Southern Union. It seeks to change the focus of classroom teaching from a teacher/textbook centered method to a student centered approach, taking into account the various learning styles of every student.
Good News Atlanta
Greater Atlanta, with a population over 4 million, is the largest metropolitan area in the Southern Union. By the year 2010, conference leaders, members, and pastors of the South Atlantic and Georgia-Cumberland Conferences are attempting to touch every person in Atlanta with the good news of the saving power of Jesus and of His second coming. The entire Union membership is assisting with this initiative.
Tell the World
A major component of the world Church vision is lay evangelism. There are now hundreds – probably thousands – of lay members from the Southern Union who have preached evangelistic meetings in the world field and the Southern Union. The Union’s lay evangelism goals include spiritual growth, community involvement, personal witness, city outreach, church planting, evangelistic programming, and media ministry.
